The dive - and dismantle group of the Royal Dutch Navy have dismantled on Sunday 07.10.07att an American plane bomb in the city of Berkhout .

Two hundred inhabitants of 84 houses could retrun around 12.30 to their

houses.  The dismantling is part of a large-scale recovering operation of two bombers from the second world war. According to a spokesman dismantling has lasted an hour. All houses in the area had to be left during the operation. The bomb has been stripped of the fuse and will be brought to explosion on sea next week. The Euro verbau DG Eck corner slide rail system was used to shore the excavation.

The so-called 500-ponder was found on 20 September

during the recovery of a British Handley Page Hampden-bommenwerper. Also material rests of supposedly the crew members were found. These have been brought to the recovery - and identification service (BID) of the Royal Netherlands Army in Soesterberg. The expectation is that there within a year more clarity comes concerning the identity of the victims.

The recovery operation will not end with the dismantling of the plane

bomb in Berkhout. Monday starts the recovery of an American B24H

liberator bomber in the village of Ursem. These crashed down on 29 June 1944. The crew could leave the plane with parachutes safely.

In Ursem the rescue workers expect to find of border weapon ammunition and heavy explosives.
